Test report
The report records the test house, the article, the vehicle, the conditions, the results and the optional assessments, and closes with a summary of results.
Basis. The public preview stops before this clause; the page states the published structure and the public guidance. The clause number and defined terms are the standard's; the explanation is our own.
What clause 6.8 asks
Clause 6.8 sets the test report. The general part and the summary of results are the two subclauses shown in the public contents. The report has to identify the test house and the test, describe the barrier and its foundation, describe the test vehicle, state the impact conditions and the geometry, record the measurements and the outcome, and present a summary of results. The report is also where the optional assessments are recorded if they were included. The clause does not make the report a certificate. It makes it the record of what was done and what happened.
Why it matters
The report is the product the buyer actually relies on. A one-page certificate with a rating string is not a substitute. The buyer needs the report to answer: which edition, which test house, which barrier configuration, which vehicle, which speed and angle, what penetration and debris, and what the vehicle did afterwards. A report that omits the edition or the foundation drawing cannot be checked against the clause, and a report that gives only a summary cannot be defended when a customer or an insurer asks a harder question.
What good looks like
Write a report acceptance checklist from Clause 6.8 and use it for every test report received. Require the full report, including the drawings, the calibration records and the raw media, not only the summary. Check that the edition and the test method are named. File the report with the assurance statement so that a reader can move from the rating to the evidence in one step.
Evidence an assessor asks for
The reviewer will start at the summary and work back to the evidence. If the report cannot support the summary, the rating is not ready to use.
- Full report The complete test report, with the summary of results and the supporting sections
- Configuration record The barrier, foundation and installation described and drawn in the report
- Vehicle record The test vehicle, its class, mass, ballast and condition as reported
- Condition record The impact conditions, speed, angle and geometry, with the measurement methods
- Results record The penetration, debris and outcome, including the post-impact condition of the vehicle
Where it commonly fails
- Only the summary page is supplied, with no drawings or measurements
- The report does not name the edition or the test method
- The barrier in the report cannot be matched to the product on site
- The report gives a rating string but not the outcome the vehicle reached
What to do before the amendment publishes
Adopt the report acceptance checklist and apply it to every existing report before the next tender. Ask the test house to fill any gap in writing.
