Example product and foundation drawings

ISO 22343-1:2023, Annex B (informative)Amends ISO 22343-1:2023Retrieved 20 October 2026

Annex B is informative. It gives an example of the product and foundation drawings a manufacturer submits to a test house. It adds no requirement, but it is a useful checklist for the drawing set.

Basis. This annex is informative. The clause number and defined terms are the standard's; the explanation is our own.

This annex is informative. It explains and illustrates; it does not create a requirement. A finding cannot rest on it alone. The normative clauses are 4 to 8 and Annex A.

What annex B asks

Annex B shows the kind of drawing package a maker gives a test house, covering the product and its foundation. It is informative. It shows the kind of drawing package that supports a test: the barrier, its dimensions, its materials, its foundation, its fixings and the installation arrangement. Because it is informative, it does not create an obligation. Clause 5.2 does: the tested barrier has to conform to its documentation. Annex B is the practical shape of that documentation, and it is the first thing a buyer should ask for when a rating is offered.

Why it matters

A drawing is worth more than a brochure because it can be compared. The buyer can put the tested drawing beside the as-built drawing and see whether the foundation, the fixings and the barrier are the same. The manufacturer can use the same set to control a product family without letting a site variation drift outside the test. The test house can use it to set up the article. The annex is informative, but the discipline it illustrates is the difference between a rating that can be used and a rating that cannot.

What good looks like

Ask for the drawing package by revision and date. Check that it includes the foundation, the fixings, the materials and the installation method. Compare it with the as-built drawing. Keep the tested revision, not only the current one. Where the annex example is used as a template, mark it as a template and replace every example value with the real one.

Evidence an assessor asks for

The reviewer will compare the drawings. An informative annex cannot be cited as a requirement, so the citation has to be to Clause 5.2, with Annex B as the example.

  • Tested drawing set Product, foundation, fixings and installation drawings, with revisions and dates
  • As-built drawing The installed barrier and foundation, with the same views as the tested set
  • Comparison sheet A line-by-line comparison of the two drawing sets
  • Template control A note that any annex example used as a template has been replaced with real values

Where it commonly fails

  • The annex is quoted as if it required a particular drawing set
  • The tested drawing is missing the foundation or the fixings
  • The as-built drawing cannot be compared because it uses different views
  • An example value from the annex is left in a live specification

What to do before the amendment publishes

Use Annex B as the checklist for the drawing package and cite Clause 5.2 for the obligation. File the tested revision with the report.
