Product information
The product information describes the barrier, its foundation, its installation and its rating, so that the tested article can be recognised on site.
Basis. The public preview stops before this clause; the page states the published structure and the public guidance. The clause number and defined terms are the standard's; the explanation is our own.
What clause 8 asks
Clause 8 requires product information. The public contents show the heading and its place after the performance rating. Read with Clause 5, the clause completes the chain from test to site: the manufacturer documents the article, the test confirms the article, and the product information tells the buyer what to install and what the rating covers. The information has to identify the barrier and its foundation, state the installation requirements and carry the rating with its conditions. It is not a marketing brochure, although it is often the only document that reaches the site.
Why it matters
Product information is where a good test is most often lost. The brochure shows the bollard and not the foundation. The installation sheet is generic across a product family. The rating appears without the vehicle class or the angle. The site team installs what the brochure shows and the buyer believes the rating travelled with it. Clause 8 gives the buyer a right to ask for information that matches the test, and gives the manufacturer a discipline for keeping the claim inside the evidence. It is also the document a customer reads first, so an omission here is more visible than the same omission in a test report filed away in a project folder.
What good looks like
Ask for the product information for the exact model and configuration. Check that it names the foundation, the fixings, the installation method and the rating conditions. Compare it with the tested drawings. Put the product information in the site file and give the installer the tested configuration, not the generic family sheet.
Evidence an assessor asks for
The reviewer will compare the product information with the tested drawing. A generic sheet that does not name the foundation is not enough for a rated installation.
- Product data sheet The model, dimensions, mass, materials and finishes, with the rating and its conditions
- Installation information The foundation, fixings, method and ground requirements, matching the tested configuration
- Rating statement The rating code and the conditions, tied to the test report
- Site file The product information, tested drawings and as-built record kept together
Where it commonly fails
- The brochure shows the barrier without the foundation that was tested
- The installation sheet covers a family of products and not the tested model
- The rating appears without the class, speed or angle
- The site file holds the sales sheet but not the tested drawing
What to do before the amendment publishes
Replace generic product sheets in the site file with the tested configuration. Ask the manufacturer to confirm in writing that the information matches the test.
